I like this idea of "playdough version." It kind of reminds me of Alan Knox's "Scripture as we live it" series.
Good questions! Of course there are other kinds of meeting together. In fact, they are probably more conducive than church any day. Church tends to be either listening to a lecture and then going home (with no interaction, and no practical expression of the teaching; or 'warm fuzzy' coffee chats when nothing deep is shared anyway). I think discussions over coffee are much more beneficial and potentially life-altering.
And how and where to encourage others to love and good deeds? By planning and carrying out some particular act of kindness. Invite your friends to join you--you'd be surprised how many people are quite interested in working together to make a difference.
